"Come Back Alive" delivers ten mortars to the Kupiansk sector

The weapons were distributed among units holding the line in Kupiansk itself and nearby areas.

The Fund purchased and delivered ten 120-millimeter mortars worth almost 11 million hryvnias. Funds for these needs were not raised separately but allocated from “Come Back Alive’s” main accounts. Military manager Andriy Derun explains that the decision to send these mortars specifically to the Kupiansk sector was made quickly, as at the beginning of October the situation in the city and its outskirts was rapidly deteriorating.

Shortly before that, the commander of one of the separate battalions operating on that section of the front contacted the Fund and explained that his unit had a shortage of mortars. His team, like several other units that received the equipment, is responsible for clearing Kupiansk itself of Russian forces and therefore required urgent assistance.

“The situation in the city itself is very difficult. During my most recent trip, I heard at least twice similar remarks that Kupiansk is turning into a new Avdiivka or Bakhmut. Because the enemy has many times more of everything — people, weapons, equipment — our forces there have long been under constant attack. It remains unclear how to stabilize the situation. Units have been redeployed to Kupiansk and continue to arrive to help stabilize it, but the situation remains severe,” says Andriy Derun.

According to him, the situation on the outskirts of the city is not much better — especially to the southeast across the Oskil River. The enemy regularly crosses the river, and 120-mm mortars help repel such advances.

“The idea of equipping units in this direction with weapons is more than timely and correct, in my opinion. Although Kupiansk is not as visible in the media as Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, Chasiv Yar, or Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, in terms of the criticality and danger of the situation, it is by no means better here,” Derun adds.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Come Back Alive Fund has provided the defense forces with 5,512 units of weaponry worth almost 2 billion hryvnias, including 1,048 mortars.
