“Power to recover”: “Come Back Alive” and JYSK are raising 10 mln UAH for adaptive sports

The “Come Back Alive”Foundation for Competent Assistance to the Army together with JYSK have launched the “Power to recover” fundraising campaign. Its goal is to raise 10 million hryvnias for adaptive sports equipment.

“Power to recover” – is a project that helps veterans recover through adaptive sports. This refers to recreational or competitive activities for people who sustained traumas, injuries or illnesses.

The special equipment makes almost any kind of sport become adaptive. The team of the Center “CBA Initiatives” Veterans Department will purchase wheelchairs for baseball and rugby, as well as the discus throw equipment, volleyball nets, balls, and so on.

In 2018, the Foundation’s team expanded its work by adding Analytical and Veteran streams. Afterwards, both have become separate departments and finally formed the “CBA Initiatives” Center as a part of “Come Back Alive” Foundation.

Within 5 years, the Veterans Department has been creating rehabilitation programs through sports and different platforms.

As the head of the Veterans Department, Taras Kovalyk states, “Our experience shows that adaptive sports help in the physical and mental health rehabilitation, they decrease the level of stigma in society, give support, faith in oneself and one’s abilities.”

After collecting 10,000,000 UAH Veterans Department will purchase special sports equipment that help veterans participate in:

  • shot field;
  • powerlifting;
  • track;
  • basketball;
  • rowing;
  • archery;
  • cycling;
  • volleyball;
  • table tennis;
  • rugby.

Sport provides both physical and psychological rehabilitation. I was able to overcome depression as I worked out and felt the support of my teammates and coaches. Sport also made me feel socialized once again. My life has become brighter,“adds a veteran who took part in sports rehabilitation projects implemented by the Veterans Department of the Center “CBA Initiatives”.

The special charity stickers designed by Maria Oz will be stored at all JYSK checkouts. These images reflect the fortitude of people who decided to connect their lives with sports regardless of traumas or injuries.

There will be no fixed cost for the stickers so the customers will have a chance to donate at their own discretion. All the raised funds will be directed accordingly.

Meanwhile, you can support the project and donate. Let’s power to help veterans recover!
