Come Back Alive specialists, UAV manufacturer UkrSpecSystems, and Pulsar Expo company joined forces to develop a custom aerial reconnaissance system built around Ukrainian-made SHARK UAV. Each system includes: a control station based on a comfortable, high-mobility van that enhances crew capabilities; two UAVs resistant to electronic warfare systems and adverse weather conditions, capable of long-duration artillery fire correction; a catapult launcher; and an additional UAV reserved for rapid replacement of potentially lost aircraft.

The Eye for an Eye fundraising campaign was completed on April 10, 2023. All 25 SHARK systems were delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine by September 11, 2023. They were received by almost all artillery brigades and reconnaissance battalions fighting within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, four systems were transferred to the Marine Corps, three to mechanized brigades, two to the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and one to the technical reconnaissance unit of a training center performing combat missions at the front.

Why SHARK?

SHARK was created to meet urgent aerial reconnaissance needs. It combines combat-tested technologies and experience of the larger PD-1 and PD-2 unmanned systems. Its technical advantages allow multiple UAVs to be operated from a single control station, even in difficult weather conditions.

What’s the price justification?

The largest portion of the system’s cost is a high-mobility van that expands its crew’s capabilities. The vehicle also includes a fully integrated control center, enabling operators to pilot the UAVs in comfortable conditions. Even if all UAVs in the system are lost, the control equipment remains with the unit, allowing the system to be re-equipped with replacement aircraft only. This approach significantly reduces the long-term operational replacement costs for the unit.

Who are these systems for?

The SHARK system is high-class specialized equipment that requires maintenance, servicing, and, most importantly, experienced crews. Therefore, the systems were assigned to artillery brigades and reconnaissance battalions with a proven record of successful missions.
