16 mortars for the army: who received the weapons from the Foundation

The “Come Back Alive” Foundation for Competent Assistance to the Army has handed over 16 new 82-mm mortars made in Ukraine to the Defense Forces. The total cost of the weapons is UAH 7,652,160.

Six mortars from this batch were delivered to the fighters of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi. The funds for the weapons for the 58th Brigade were raised by the Kyiv-based Zavertailo bakery and Honey confectionery.

“This lightweight and rather powerful weapon is already working at the front line and is doing damage to the occupiers. For infantrymen, these mortars are the closest friend, assistant, and often a savior, because their crews support the infantry with fire both in attack and defense,” the 58th Brigade said in a Facebook post.

Apart from that, four mortars were delivered to the soldiers of the 28th separate mechanized brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign and the 54th separate mechanized brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa. Two mortars were also provided to one of the reconnaissance battalions of the Defense Forces.

“Weapons are one of the most frequent requests to the Foundation,” says Taras Chmut, director of the Come Back Alive Foundation, “Mortars are not afraid of electronic warfare, they are rapid-fire, have a powerful munition that can suppress collective firepower, infantry in the offensive, “disassemble” fortifications, try to “knock down” the shielding of advancing vehicles. The mortar remains a relevant, powerful and popular weapon of the front line.”

In May, the Foundation purchased 100 82-mm mortars for the army for donations from businesses and citizens to the organization’s general accounts, outside of individual projects. They will be given to units to replace the lost ones or those that need to be resupplied. Earlier, Come Back Alive transferred four mortars from this batch to the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade Edelweiss.

In 2022, “Come Back Alive” became the first charitable organization in Ukraine to receive permission for the international purchase of military and dual-use goods, including lethal weapons. Since then, the Foundation has purchased 4692 units of collective infantry weapons – grenade launchers, machine guns, and mortars – for the Defense Forces.
